Journals From A 2003 Thru-Hike of the Appalachian Trail (by Loony)

Entry #10 – March 31, 2003

Was a very chilly morning. Couldn’t sleep much last night for the chill. Woke around 6:30 but didn’t get up till 7:30 or so. Didn’t get on the Trail until about 9:30! Pretty Late. We were feeling all right – not really sore at all, and no blisters yet (I don’t think). I haven’t even looked at my feet yet! There were some pretty big climbs today, but I’m sure they’re nothing compared to what’s coming up. I was getting very tired, though. I just have to try to stay positive. It is definitely not an easy hike, but there are some nice stretches. I have to remember that for every uphill there is a downhill and that it will get easier as time goes on. We passed the new Gooch Mtn Shelter, even though it was really nice & brand new. We went a couple more miles & now we’re @ Gooch Gap. There’s quite a tent city here. We’ve met some really cool people so far. This evening we talked with Semi from CT and Johnathan from GA. There are a few other people who seem to be hiking at our pace, too. Well, tonight’s not as cold, so hopefully I’ll be able to sleep better. Who knows where we’ll be tomorrow…
