Journals From A 2003 Thru-Hike of the Appalachian Trail (by Loony)
Entry #48 – May 13, 2003
9:10 PM – Andy was feeling alright this morning, so we went and had breakfast @ The Sidetrack Cafe (would not recommend their breakfasts) and then bummed around town for awhile. Got our stuff together then and headed out. Made a couple stops on the way out of town. One at the outfitter where we saw Radar & Thumper. Both of them were only hiking to Damascus, so they were taking it easy. Stopped again at the Ole Barn for ice cream.
The hiking was pretty easy but Andy was not feeling his best, and I felt pretty tired and had a bit of a stomach ache. Decided to stop after 6 or 7 miles when we found a nice campsite by a river. We are also right next to the Virginia Creeper Trail – a bike/hiking/horse trail that follows and old railroad line.
Tomorrow we’ll probably take it easy again – only 10 or so miles. I am hoping I don’t come down with THE BUG. Probably just ate too much in town.
Summer seems to be here, and so the woods have really become green now. Also, the terrain is supposed to ease up some in Virginia, so hopefully we’ll be able to rack up the miles. Well, after Trail Days, that is.
