Journals From A 2003 Thru-Hike of the Appalachian Trail (by Loony)
Entry #54 – May 22, 2003
9:15 PM – Woke up in the shelter this morning before 8 and most everyone was gone. Seems like we’ve been sleeping late lately. Got our stuff together & stopped @ the visitor’s center on our way out to use the hand dryers to dry out our clothes some more. The morning was pretty chilly – got going around 9:40.
It didn’t actually rain during the day, but with the mist & fog, every time the wind blew, we were hit with drops from the trees.
Around 2 we arrived at the highway interchange where there were gas stations, restaurants, and a hotel. Stopped & got a few food supplies @ the store & had a couple hot dogs. It was tempting to get a room @ the hotel, but we had overspent our budget in Damascus, so we had to pass it up. Hiked a few more miles in to the Davis Path Shelter. We were glad to get spaces in the shelter, as we’re not sure if it’s going to rain tonight or what.
