Journals From A 2003 Thru-Hike of the Appalachian Trail (by Loony)
Entry #55 – May 23, 2003
7:40 PM – Not much today. Woke up late again, left around 9:30 and got to Knot Maul Shelter around 3:00. Only 11 miles – we’re planning on 19 tomorrow.
The rain held out during the day and actually saw a bit of blue sky. Started raining around 5, but luckily we had our spots in the shelter. In fact, we were the first ones here. Sharing with DoubleDare, Thistle, Takin’er Easy and Mothman. There are quite a few others tenting. Will try to get out early tomorrow. Terrain has been nice – some hills today, but nothing too major. Walked through a lot of fields, crossed a lot of stiles and there were many rhododendron patches, too – they’re in full bloom in these lower areas.
