Journals From A 2003 Thru-Hike of the Appalachian Trail (by Loony)
Entry #66 – June 6, 2003
Had a nice night last night, camped by ourselves near the river. Had a fire and a few beers that we had packed out from town!
Another hot day. Started around 9:00. The terrain wasn’t too bad, so the 23 miles was looking doable. Crossed over the Blue Ridge Parkway numerous times. There were a lot of overlooks with perfect views on this clear day, but, for whatever reason, we didn’t take any pictures. Had some Trail Magic during our lunch break @ Bobblet’s Gap Shelter, Bear Bait, a ’98 thru-hiker who lives nearby brought down some fruit, oreos & Gatorade – YUM!
Continued on & amazingly, made it to the Bryant-Davis Shelter by 7:30. We were surprised to find Glacier here! She had taken a few days off, so we were glad to catch her. The shelter’s awesome – 3 floors w/a huge area for cooking, etc. There’s supposed to be a storm rolling in tonight, so we’re glad to be here! The roof’s supposed to leak, though, so we’ll see how it goes.
