Journals From A 2003 Thru-Hike of the Appalachian Trail (by Loony)

Entry #80 – June 23, 2003

9:45 PM – Had a very restful sleep in our tent last night. First time out of the shelters in quite a while. Woke to another beautiful day, though it did get pretty hot. Glad for the trees & shade. Went a mile off the Trail into Linden for a mail drop. That was a HOT walk along the blacktop. Had a bunch of ice cream & pop @ the store to make up for it, though. Luckily, we also got a ride back to the Trail. Tonight we’re at Manassas Gap Shelter, but tenting. Guess there are snakes in the shelter. Tons of other people showed up – Gray Squirrel, Just Bill, Sketch, Moo, U2 & a bunch more. Quite a change from last night when there were only 3 others.

Oh – I guess when Just Bill left this morning (early), he went down to get water @ the spring. Left his pack up on the Trail & when he came back there was a bear chowing down on his Snickers. Left him alone then, I guess.
