Entry #119 – August 15, 2003

10:45 PM – I don’t know what has happened to us. Left camp @ 7:30 AM. Got a ride into Manchester Center, VT @ 10:00 AM. It was a nice day & we did our shopping & laundry. Ate @ McDonalds – twice! (Today I ate a double cheeseburger, 1 McChicken, 1 Big & Tasty, 1 small fry, 1 medium fry, 2 apple pies, 2+ drinks and 2 hot fudge sundaes. I think Andy had even more!) After our 2nd trip to McDonalds, we were sitting outside preparing to get back on the trail, when Andy mentioned staying the night. Next thing we knew, we were @ The Sutton Place. A house with rooms and shared bath. Andy’s watching TV downstairs right now. We have no willpower anymore to say “no” to town stays.

Rain tomorrow – yuck. Maybe we should zero here.

Was thinking of the perfect Mac commercial today, based on actual events: Somewhere on the AT – A few hikers are standing atop a grand mountain. One says how wonderful it all is & how could anyone be sitting @ work behind a desk?

I say, “I miss my computer.”

He says, “You must have a Mac.”

“Yup.”

I remember that conversation from the first weeks on the Trail.

Oh – I could have sworn I saw Hillary Clinton @ McDonald’s.
