Journals From A 2003 Thru-Hike of the Appalachian Trail (by Loony)
Entry #133 – September 1, 2003
9:30 PM – A little late and don’t feel like writing too much!
Got to have leftover pancakes @ the Hut this morning, so we left with full stomachs. Will have to remember to write about the experience with the two SoBo’s at the Hut.
Had another good day for hiking and got into Zealand Falls Hut & had lunch. AYCE soup & bread for a few bucks. I guess it’s all leftovers, but who cares. Left full again!
Had an easy hike down to Crawford Notch & we caught a ride to the Dry River Campground. They have showers & laundry here. There is almost no one around. We haven’t seen a caretaker yet, either, so maybe we’ll end up taking a thru-hiker discount, ha, Ha! Really we shouldn’t, but the sites are $12…I think we need change for a $20.
The batteries in my headlamp are about dead, so I better get to sleep. Headed for Mt Washington tomorrow. Well, Lake of the Clouds Hut probably – about a mile short of the summit. Should be a very tough 11 miles.
