Journals From A 2003 Thru-Hike of the Appalachian Trail (by Loony)

Entry #151 – September 25, 2003

7:10 PM – Got into Monson early. Well, got to the highway early – around noon. Waited quite awhile for a ride. Eventually a big cruiser pulls up – it was Shaw, from the boarding house. I don’t know how old he was, just very, and was on oxygen. He drove us into town at 85 mph and I almost needed the oxygen myself. I thought for sure we were going to crash & burn. We got there in one piece, though, & he dropped us off at his place. We didn’t want to stay there though. Not sure why, but just wanted to see if we could find someplace a little nicer. Ended up staying at The Lakeshore House. It was basically a B & B behind the laundromat. It was really nice. Decorated like a cabin & with antiques. There was a full (self) service kitchen with snacks & coffee all day. We really liked it.

Got a bunch of mail drops & had fun opening them all. Went to the library, store, etc. – all the fun town stuff. Had a few beers & a great sleep.

Got back on the Trail around 11:00 today & did 10 miles to Wilson Valley Lean-to. There was actually room in the shelter, so we decided to stay in since it was supposed to rain. Here with Loser, Sherpa, Strider, Froggie Pete, and some others.

Now glad we’re in here, cause the rain is starting.
